Steephill Cove

One of the Isle of Wight’s best kept secrets, Steephill Cove is the perfect place for some beachside fun or just to kick back and relax. As there is no access to this unspoilt Cove by road, just steps or a slope, it will either be local knowledge or sheer good luck that brings you to Steephill. With just a handful of character houses, fishermen, rock-pools, deck chairs and a safe friendly feeling, it’s the perfect spot for families to build sand castles, go rock pooling, or for couples to just relax. There are no noisy arcades or kiss-me-quick hats, just good old-fashioned seaside bliss. If you are looking for a seafood lunch there is The Boathouse Seafood Restaurant serving fresh crab and lobster caught by the Cove’s very own fishermen Mark and Jimmy Wheeler who launch their pots daily to bring back mouth-watering treats for you to enjoy on the restaurant’s alfresco deck. If a snack is more to your liking, then a Crab Shed takeaway crab pasty would be just the thing or if you prefer afternoon cake and coffee then head to the Cove Coffee Shop and indulge in Isle of Wight ice cream and homemade cake or a sandwich. There are lovely things to buy for your body and home too so you could pick up a few gifts or just treat yourself.

Locally there’s lots to do. There is the world renowned Ventnor Botanical Gardens to visit with rare plants collected from around the world which thrive in the micro climate in this part of the Island and the pretty Victorian town of Ventnor itself is a fifteen minute walk away along the cliffs for any amenities you might need. Ventnor Cricket Club is a stone’s throw away and the golf club a short drive. You can also take in some stunning scenery along the coastal paths which are well signposted around the Island.
We know that Steephill Cove is a very special place because visitors come back year after year to sample its particular delights. So escape from life, the universe and everything and come and see us at Steephill. You’ll be glad you did.

Some photographs below are taken by Chad Powell, an Isle of Wight photographer who lives close to the cove.
